Portsmouth is celebrating a major Fairtrade milestone, with 100 businesses across the city now supporting Fairtrade products.
As Fairtrade Fortnight runs from 21 September to 4 October, Portsmouth City Council is encouraging residents to support local Fairtrade businesses helping to create fairer opportunities for farmers and workers around the world. The annual campaign highlights how everyday shopping choices can make a real difference.
This achievement is part of Portsmouth 100, the city's centenary celebrations, and demonstrates Portsmouth's commitment to ethical and sustainable shopping.
Cllr Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council said:
"Fairtrade Fortnight is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the businesses, organisations and residents who are helping to make a positive difference through the choices they make every day.
"To reach 100 businesses supporting Fairtrade during Portsmouth's centenary year is a brilliant achievement. It shows that Portsmouth is a city that cares about doing the right thing, supporting producers around the world while also backing our own local businesses.
"Many cafés and retailers across the city already stock Fairtrade products, so I would encourage residents to shop local wherever they can and look out for Fairtrade choices during Fairtrade Fortnight."
Co-op's branches across the city are among those leading the way. Participating businesses are encouraged to offer at least two Fairtrade products and receive a Portsmouth100 Fairtrade certificate and window sticker, making it easier for residents and visitors to identify businesses taking part.

"We're proud to support Fairtrade and be part of this city-wide achievement. Fairtrade is about making sure farmers and workers are paid fairly for what they produce, and that's something we're pleased to champion.
Reaching 100 businesses shows how Portsmouth is coming together to make a positive difference through everyday choices."
A programme of activities will take place across Portsmouth during Fairtrade Fortnight, giving residents the chance to learn more about Fairtrade and discover products sold by local businesses.
